Vocational Training and Employment

Promoting vocational training and employment as a global challenge

Securing sustainable living conditions for the rapidly growing world population is probably the greatest challenge of our time. Due to a lack of participation in social and economic progress, millions of people worldwide are still at risk of poverty. This forms the breeding ground for violent conflicts and is also the driving force behind the massive migration movements with which the present is confronted.

The promotion of vocational training is of particular importance in this context. Above all, it opens up personal development prospects for young people, an opportunity for employment and prosperity – provided that economic growth generates sufficient demand for qualified skilled workers.

Commitments by the international donor community to promote vocational education and training have multiplied in recent years. As the world's largest donor in the field of vocational education and training, Germany occupies an outstanding position. Many partner countries are also showing great interest in the German dual vocational training system. The close cooperation between the state and industry that is anchored in this system often serves as a model for reforming the vocational training systems of our partner countries.
